WELCOME

The Mid York Mycological Society meets the 2nd Monday of each month from April to November. Most of our meetings are held at Deperno Hall, Utica College 7P. Yearly dues are $15 for an individual and $2 for a family membership.

Membership privileges include newsletters, facebook page, invitations to forays.

Q. Who should join?
A. Anyone who has an love for the outdoor especially walking in the woods and an interest in learning about fungi.

Q. I'm interested in mushrooms but I don't know anything about them. Will I feel out of place?
A. Absolutely not. Some of our members are just beginners, but even our most experienced ones are still learning.

Q. Tell me more about the meetings.
A. Our Utica College meetings start at 7p.m. After the business portion of the meeting we move on to the program which may be a quest speaker, a fungi related video or even practice identifyng mushroom thoug the use of "keys. Someone usually brings refreshments too. Oh and if you did pick some mushrooms feel free to bring them for identification or bragging rights!

Q. What is a foray?
A. For our purposes it's an organized walk in the woods to look for fungi. Dress approratly, bring a hand basket and a knife and pick samples of each fungi you find. We do our best to identify and list what we have found as a group. It's a good way to learn how to find and ID mushrooms.

Q. What about Edible Mushrooms?
A. We are interested in anything mushroom related. Of course many us do love to find and cook wild mushrooms. Usually one meeting a year is dedicated to "mycophagy", with a sampling of a variety of edible fungi. But even if you don't like to eat mushrooms, you can still join us!
